Anil Ambani's 'Big Cinemas' has been in discussions with Several Multiplex Operators regarding merger from a long time but now it seems Kerala based 'Carnival Cinemas' is set to take over the Company. Business News Papers report that the deal is close to completion and they are discussing whether it should be a complete merger or an 80% deal with Reliance keeping 20%.
258 screens nationwide are operated by Big cinemas, India's 3rd largest film exhibitor and this deal will further consolidate the Multiplex industry. Carnival already hold 50 odd screens and are set to open 75 more soon. This merger will take them to 2nd spot. India currently has 1700 multiplex screens with PVR leading the market with 454 and Inox has 361 screens. As already reported, Just last week, Cinepolis bought 83 screen Fun Cinemas and now has 193 holding 4th spot currently.
