"Anyone who thinks you have to steal an animal's skin to make a fashion statement or blind a rabbit to test eye shadow is behind the times", says PETA India CEO Poorva Joshipura. "Thanks to cruelty-free cosmetics, delicious vegan foods and stylish vegan clothing, shoes and bags – which are readily available just about anywhere you shop – going vegan and enjoying the finer things in life can go hand in hand."
Many cows, buffaloes and other animals used for leather are dismembered and skinned while they are still conscious, and runoff from leather tanneries has been linked to cancer and respiratory infections. Snakes are often nailed to trees and skinned alive for their skin. More than 1,700 companies around the world are against animal tests, but many others still choose to subject animals to painful, notoriously unreliable tests, in which substances are smeared on their skin, sprayed in their faces or forced down their throats. In addition to causing animal suffering on a massive scale, raising animals for food is a leading cause of water pollution, land spoilage and greenhouse-gas emissions. And eating meat and dairy products has been conclusively linked to cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and obesity.
Among the other companies whose vegan products will be showcased at the PETA stall are: Ecowings, Merci, Ethik, Funk, Senso Veg, The Throw Company, Faux Throw, Fabrino, Alcantara, Studio Leatherette, Winner Nippon Pvt Ltd, Pallod Creations, Vicco Laboratories, and vegan chocolates from Mason & Co[PJ1] .
